OLLI SHARED INTEREST GROUPS: Free to all OLLI at BCC members


We’re excited to announce a new OLLI member benefit. OLLI’s Shared Interest Groups (SIGs) are member-organized peer-led discussion and activity groups that are free and exclusively for OLLI at BCC members.

CURRENT OLLI SHARED INTEREST GROUPS (SIGS)

The Absolute Sound
Those with a passion for music, be it classical, jazz or folk, will meet at one another’s homes to listen to and discuss the music presented by the host, the sound, and the system producing that sound. Hosts will rotate among the participants.

Adventure Travel
Present and hear about participants’ travel experiences to places out of the mainstream – how they got there and what they experienced.

American Indian Art and Culture
Explore the history, art, and culture of American Indian nations with particular emphasis on their creative expression.

Butternut Downhill Ski Group
Recreational skiing with others for fun and safety. Meetup times to be determined by members.

Chinese Mahjong
Learn the history and rules of play of the ancient game of mahjong the Chinese way, using Chinese tiles, and to enjoy playing the game with three other participants. Learn how to read some Chinese characters using the tiles.

Exploring Photography
For those who share an interest in photography, photo field trips, discussion of photos taken, and techniques.

Fermented Foods
Discuss and learn about how our ancestors preserved food and lived more closely to nature. Experience the art of using fermentation today in bread making and other food preparation.

NEW: French Conversation
Parlez-vous fran├žais? Would you like to practice your French with others in a relaxed setting? Meet up in informal settings for French conversation with other OLLI members. (Pictured above: the group enjoying a French wine tasting...)

Gender Roles/Future Families
Explore and discuss current and future changes in gender roles in the families that our grandchildren will be creating and the changing roles of men and women.

Mystery Lovers Book Club
If you love reading mystery novels, this group is for you. Books will be chosen from award winning American and international novels by SIG members. Members will take turns facilitating discussions. Meetings will be held the fourth Monday of every month at 1:30pm at a private home in West Stockbridge.

Pool Players
Love to play pool or want to learn? Join this group for casual games, be it 14.1 (straight pool); 9-ball; 8-ball; 10 ball or whatever anyone wants to play. Open to all; you do not have to have any experience. It could be single play or team play depending on how many show an interest. Meetings will be held in Otis Recreation Center, which has pool tables.

Socializing Singles
Provides participants the opportunity to meet new friends and participate in various social activities such as movie nights, Tanglewood concerts, picnics, etc., as determined by the group. Open to men and women.

Understanding Soccer
For those who share an interest in and/or would like to learn more about soccer by following major tournaments on television, attending college and professional games, and meeting and hearing from current soccer players.

Widows & Widowers Social Group
A gathering of men and women who have lost a spouse or partner through death. Designed for those interested in social activities – daytrips, dining out, speakers, etc. – together with those who have the shared experience of loss. This SIG is not a grief support group. Participants are encouraged to propose social activities to foster diverse offerings and build community.
