Escape the winter and enjoy the beautiful Latin poetry of the ancient Romans. We will translate selections from Vergil, Catullus, Horace, Ovid and Martial. Love, leisure and mythology are topics we will cover. Some experience in Latin is required, but if you haven’t studied it since high school or college, no worries! We are all in this together in pursuit of beauty, grace and humor.

The text we are using is Cambridge Latin Anthology(Cambridge University Press, 1996). A Latin dictionary is also recommended. Please translate the Catullus poems on page 48 (Catullus 7, 109 and 85) and the Horace ode on page 52 (Ode 1.5) Having problems? Read them in English, they are all online. This should be good fun!
Jamie Keller holds a Master's Degree and an A.B.D. from SUNY Albany in Ancient Greek. She is a retired Latin teacher, and currently a docent and educational guide at the Norman Rockwell Museum.
