In six weekly sessions online, participants will learn about six operas, including the four operas in Wagner’s Ring Cycle. Chris Casey will provide information on the composer, librettist, first performances and cast, followed by a slideshow of important scenes, along with audio excerpts of significant recordings. A native of the northern suburbs of Chicago, Christine Casey attended Northwestern University, where she received two degrees in Music Education. She retired from public school teaching, having taught at Fenton High School in Bensenville, where she was the choir director and department chair of music and art. As a soprano soloist, she has performed actively in the Chicago area. For the past eleven years, Christine has volunteered as a community and school lecturer, previously for the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Opera Lovers Lecture Corps in Chicago, and recently in the Berkshire Community College OLLI program. |
