Columbia County offers beautiful hikes around ponds, along streams, and to the ridges of the Taconics. Discover these varied trails, many as close as hikes in Berkshire County, and the land trusts that protect them.

Larry Bennett moved to Columbia County from Wichita, Kansas in 2016 and almost immediately discovered the hiking opportunities offered by the Columbia Land Conservancy. Members of his Unitarian Universalist Meeting of South Berkshire then invited him on hikes at Berkshire Land Conservancy sites and others throughout Berkshire County and he's been hiking almost every week since then. When he's not hiking or biking, he works part time for the NPR station in Wichita and distributes bikes for the New Lebanon Climate Smart Communities bike recycling program.

Amy Whitworth recently moved to Great Barrington after finding her way here several years ago on a pilgrimage of old growth forests that led her to several of the forests in the Berkshires. She has been a life-long, avid hiker, exploring much of the West and now the Northeast. She recently retired from teaching philosophy and in this new chapter her life is enjoying reading and writing, hiking and kayaking and biking in the Berkshires and taking advantage of the wonderful cultural events here.
