This course is offered online via the free, easy-to-use Zoom program.

This year is the 400^th anniversary of the arrival of the Mayflower at Plymouth Rock.  Course sessions will explore a variety of themes: the history of the Separatists in England, the voyage and the legal Compact, the world the Pilgrims found, the world they made, encounters and conflict with original inhabitants, popular culture’s portrayal of the Pilgrims, and the legacy of the Pilgrims in Berkshire County and the United States. 

John Dickson served 26 years in the U.S. Foreign Service, with assignments in Nigeria, South Africa, Peru, Mexico, and Canada, as well as in Washington DC.  He is active in local history projects in Pittsfield while continuing international work through two Peace Corps alumni organizations: Encore de la Paix and the Peace Corps Community for Refugees.  He holds degrees in history from Princeton University and the University of Massachusetts. 

Jesse Waldinger taught High School English before becoming a medical malpractice attorney and playwright.  His plays, primarily on historical subjects, have been staged in the Berkshires and Hudson Valley, in addition to Long Island, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and California.  One of his screenplays features the Mayflower and Plymouth colony.
