What makes Russia tick, and why don’t we get it -- or do we? A discussion of Russia as perceived in America: What are the origins of Russophobia? Why do Americans view both Tsarist, Communist and post-Soviet Russia (Putin) as the enemy? What are the most common misunderstandings about the major historical, political, cultural, economic, legal, geographical and psychological differences between the two countries? Is there anything positive about Russia for us? What are the vital values that helped Russia survive adversity for a thousand years? What can we learn from Russia?

Laszlo Dienes taught for 38 years at UMass Amherst, teaching Russian culture, literature, world cinema, digital culture, theories of aesthetics, and cultures in exile.  He was a Fulbright scholar in France and Germany and holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
