Four Sessions

In this Pulitzer and Tony award-winning play, David Auburn explores the dilemmas of family relations, dementia, heredity, and genius. Partly by reading sections of the play aloud in class, and partly by discussion, we will consider different possibilities of staging, directing, and acting to see the various ways one might present the characterization and even the meaning of the play.

Suggested Readings:
Any copy of David Auburn’s Proof. I will be using the Dramatists Play Service edition in class.  Please read the play before the first class.

John Trainor has been involved in theater since his undergraduate days at Williams College, and has acted and directed in Africa, the Bahamas, and locally in the Berkshires and New York State. This will be the seventh theater course has taught for OLLI at BCC.
