A survey of many of the operatic masterpieces of Giuseppe Verdi, the course consists of seven sessions as follows:

  • Lesson 1 – The Road to Oberto – an examination of Verdi’s early life leading up to the premiere of this first opera, Oberto
  • Lessons 2 & 3 – A deep dive in La Traviata, the last of Verdi’s middle period masterpieces
  • Lessons 4 & 5 – A deep dive into the most controversial of Verdi’s operas, Un Ballo
  • Lessons 6 & 7 – A deep dive into Verdi’s most performed opera, Aida

Harvey A. Weiss has studied and enjoyed opera for the past 60+ years, on recordings and in-person in opera houses all over the world. He is a patron at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York and has had the privilege of meeting some of the stars of the operatic stage, including Placido Domingo, Bryn Terfel, Sandra Radvanosky, and Dmitri Hvorastovsy. As the owner of Data Networks, Inc, he was a software engineer for 40 years.
