The Madman Theory:

A Live Online Conversation about Trump's Foreign Policy

Chief National Security correspondent for CNN
& New York Times bestselling author

Jim Sciutto

with Politico reporter and Berkshire Eagle
advisory committee member
Daniel Lippman

Wednesday, August 19, 7pm EDT
Online via Zoom & free. RSVP to attend.

During the height of the Vietnam War, Richard Nixon employed an unusual scare tactic in his efforts to reach an honorable withdrawal. He led Vietnam to believe he was crazy enough to start a nuclear war. Nixon would come to describe his volatile approach of threatening unpredictability as “The Madman Theory.” From his first days in office President Trump has, both intentionally and by accident, employed his own “madman theory”, creating an unpredictable and unstudied foreign policy.

Join us for a live, online, interactive conversation featuring CNN's Jim Sciutto in conversation with Politico reporter Daniel Lippman. Your questions and comments are welcomed!

The event is free and open to all, but RSVPs are required. Click here to RSVP.

Jim Sciutto is CNN's chief national security correspondent and anchor of CNN Newsroom. After more than two decades as a foreign correspondent stationed in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, he returned to Washington to cover the Defense Department, the State Department, and intelligence agencies for CNN. His work has earned him Emmy Awards, the George Polk Award, the Edward R. Murrow award, and the Merriman Smith Memorial Award for excellence in presidential coverage. He is a graduate of Yale and a Fulbright Fellow.

In his new book, THE MADMAN THEORY: Trump Takes On the World (HarperCollins) CNN Chief National Security Correspondent Jim Sciutto reveals how Donald Trump has employed such a theory of his own and investigates what Trump’s erratic approach to foreign policy really means for the world and America’s place in it.

Featuring exclusive interviews with an array of current and former administration officials, including Fiona Hill, Susan Gordon, Steve Bannon, Peter Navarro, Joseph Yun andH.R. McMaster, THE MADMAN THEORY answers the critical questions provoked by the president’s chaotic take on foreign policy—has Trump made America greater or weaker? Safe or less safe? Smart, authoritative, and incredibly compelling, Sciutto’s definitive book explains exactly how Trump’s destructive diplomacy has disrupted the world order in these four years, and how hard it will be to restore it.

The event is free and open to all, but RSVPs are required. Click here to RSVP.
