Jeremy Yudkin will discuss the evolution of this most intimate and expressive of classical music genres. From Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven to Dvořák, Borodin, and Shostakovich, the string quartet medium has attracted the most personal and profound work of the great composers. Come listen and learn why this particular grouping of two violins, viola, and cello makes for the perfect chamber-music combination. This annual distinguished lecture will be presented in the context of a series of string quartet concerts that will be offered at Tanglewood over the following few days.

Dr. Jeremy Yudkin is Professor of Music and Director of the Center for Beethoven Research at Boston University. He has served as Visiting Professor of Music at Oxford University and Harvard. He is the author of ten books and the recipient of Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Camargo Foundation, and Williams College. This year marks the forty-first consecutive year of his much-loved Pre-Concert Tanglewood Talks, given twice every weekend throughout the summer Tanglewood season at the Lenox Town Hall Auditorium.

Admission is $10 for OLLI at BCC and Berkshire Museum members, and $15 for the general public. Admission is free for Berkshire Community College students, staff and faculty, youth 17 and under, and those holding WIC, EBT/SNAP, or ConnectorCare cards.
