Jean Guerrero is an Emmy-winning investigative border reporter for KPBS in San Diego and the author of Crux: A Cross-Border Memoir, which won the PEN/FUSION Emerging Writers prize. She began her career at the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires as a correspondent in Mexico City. She is a contributor to the New York Times as well as NPR, PBS, and other public media, and her writing is featured in Best American Essays 2019, edited by Rebecca Solnit. Guerrero lives in La Mesa, California.

Carl Hoffman is the author of the New York Times bestseller Savage Harvest, hailed as a “masterpiece” by Outside and named a New York Times editors’ choice and one of the Washington Post’s 50 notable works of nonfiction for 2014, as well as The Lunatic Express. He is a former contributing editor to National Geographic Traveler and Wired, and has traveled on assignment to eighty countries.

About the book Hatemonger: Stephen Miller, Donald Trump, and the White Nationalist Agenda:

“A fascinating analysis of Miller and his frightening effects on immigration policy, which is enriched by the author’s vast experience reporting on the U.S.-Mexico border.” - Library Journal

“An unsparing portrait of the young architect of Trumpian nationalism…carefully documented and persuasive. A readable study in the banality of evil, even if it comes clothed in bespoke suits.”-Kirkus Reviews

"Superb, deeply revelatory."-Vanity Fair

Stephen Miller is one of the most influential advisors in the White House. He has crafted Donald Trump’s speeches, designed immigration policies that ban Muslims and separate families, and outlasted such Trump stalwarts as Steve Bannon and Jeff Sessions. Emmy- and PEN-winning investigative journalist and author Jean Guerrero charts the thirty-four-year-old’s astonishing rise to power, drawing from more than one hundred interviews with his family, friends, adversaries and government officials. Hatemonger unveils the man driving some of the most divisive confrontations over what it means to be American––and what America will become.

About the book Liar's Circus: A Strange and Terrifying Journey Into the Upside-Down World of Trump's MAGA Rallies:

“The author of outstanding books that blend travel, history, and anthropology such as Savage Harvest (2014), turns his eye on Donald Trump’s MAGA rallies. . . . Hoffman often shakes his head in wonderment but rarely condescends, and he approaches his subject with scholarly vigor . . . A valuable portrait of authoritarianism in action and its more-than-willing adherents.”- Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"A riveting deep dive into the world of Trump political rallies. ... Conveys the horror of Mr. Trump’s con game while remaining sympathetic to those being swindled by him." - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

“Hoffman never condescends or dismisses and brings these Americans to life with fascinating subtleties and contradictions. Many of us have wondered ‘who are these people’ and Hoffman answers that question with great grace and understanding.”- Stuart Stevens, legendary GOP strategist and author of It Was All A Lie: How the Republican Party Became Donald Trump

Hoffman is the first reporter who has sought to understand Trump rallies as a sociological phenomenon examined from the bottom up. He stood in line for more than 170 hours with Trump's most ardent superfans and joined them at the very front row, and traveled from Minnesota to Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and New Hampshire immersing himself in their culture. Equally freewheeling and profound, Liar’s Circus tracks the MAGA faithful across five thousand miles of the American heartland during a crucial arc of the Trump presidency stretching from the impeachment saga to the dawn of the coronavirus pandemic that ended the rallies as we know it.
