One of the largest yet least understood nations in Europe, Ukraine has recently undergone

two revolutions and is currently in a military conflict with its neighbor, Russia. This course

encompasses different aspects of Ukraine’s modern history, geography, and cultural

life, focusing on its geopolitical significance. The design of the course (discussions,

presentations, an online conference with Ukrainian researchers) aims to create

opportunities to develop/strengthen understanding of the geopolitical situation in this part

of Eastern Europe.

Nataliia Volkovetska-Ireland holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
