Pyotr Tchaikovsky was a composer of the romantic period, whose works are among the most popular music in the classical repertoire, despite the fact he was educated for a career as a civil servant. He was the first Russian composer whose music made a lasting impression internationally, bolstered by his appearances as a guest conductor in Europe and the United States. We will explore his life historically and biographically, as well as his influence on classical and contemporary music, and listen to many of his great works.
