Four lectures offer a tantalizing look into the lives and scandals of four of history’s most

remarkable Renaissance women—all of whom were tied to Mantua—one of the most

important and extraordinary republics of pre-unification Italy. Few women influenced

western European life as did Isabella D’Este Gonzaga, Lucrezia Borgia, Caterina Sforza and

Bianca Capello.

A linguist, Anna Zaffanella, is a retired professor of Italian from Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute (RPI). Anna also taught French at Berkshire Country Day School in Lenox, where she was head of the language department. She earned her B.S. degree at North Adams State College.
